Founded on October 27, 1905, during the reign of Emperor Gojong, the Korean Red Cross is one of the oldest humanitarian organizations in the world. It provides emergency assistance, disaster relief, and educational outreach throughout South Korea and is the designated national affiliate of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Earlier this year, Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, paid a courtesy visit to President Shin Hee-young on the sidelines of the Korea-Africa Summit in June. President Shin praised Dr. Bio’s leadership in advocating for sanitation and health improvements for women and girls in Sierra Leone. He also expressed a desire to foster stronger partnerships with Sierra Leone’s government, building on the warm bilateral relations between President H.E. Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea and President H.E. Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone. During the summit, the First Ladies of both nations, Mrs. Kim Keon-hee and Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, also met.
