On October 10, 2024, Paul Sobba Massaquoi was warmly welcomed as the newly appointed Sierra Leonean Ambassador to South Korea at a ceremony hosted by the Sierra Leone Embassy in Seoul. The event, held in the VIP room of Terminal 1 at Incheon Airport, attracted notable attendees, including Head of Chancery Madam Isha S. Sillah and several African diplomats.

Massaquoi, who previously served as the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA), brings extensive experience to his new role. His leadership at SLMA is renowned for implementing significant reforms and promoting growth, particularly in aligning maritime policies with international standards and enhancing Sierra Leone’s blue economy for sustainable development.

Described as a "diplomat par excellence," Massaquoi's appointment comes at a pivotal moment for both Sierra Leone and South Korea as they seek to deepen their bilateral relations. He aims to build on the foundation established by his predecessor, Ambassador Kathos Jibao Mattai.

In his remarks, Massaquoi expressed confidence in his ability to represent Sierra Leone effectively and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering partnerships that benefit both nations. He extended gratitude to his fellow African ambassadors for their warm reception and emphasized his dedication to enhancing bilateral cooperation.
